I grew up in small town Ontario, Canada. I lived in the Nation’s Capital, Ottawa for a big portion of my adult life. Seven years ago my life took a hard right while I was looking left. In the end it turned out to be the best thing to happen; when the dust settled I was thousands of miles away from Ottawa, in Calgary, Alberta.
My passion for dogs was sparked when my grandfather helped me acquire my first miniature Long Haired Dachshund, Sasha. When I brought Sasha home I started reading everything I could on the topic of Dogs. As the years went by I went from being a Youth Worker to a Professional Pet Stylist. For years I worked for other people, but when I moved to Calgary I decided to start my own Salon. I took Canine Oasis Day Spa from no clients and working three jobs to only working for myself in just one year.
Since Sasha I’ve had more four legged teachers in my life. Memphis was a Miniature Dachshund that had so much personality it hurt. Chance, a German Shepherd mix, was a very special part of my life. Chance was born both blind and deaf. He taught me a lot about life, patience, understanding, and that not everything works for everyone. I am very proud that he picked me to be his best friend, we had many good years together; I miss him every day. My current pack includes three dachshunds: Julian, Hardy and Vinnie and a German shepherd, named Sheba.
I love to read and spent a lot of time reading everything I could on dogs, one day my brother asked me if I ever read anything else. When I thought about it my answer was no. I decided to start reading about other things that interested me like: business, autobiographies and books on wellbeing. The more I read the more I felt compelled to share what I was learning.
Another dream I’ve had is to meet and talk with other entrepreneurs in the dog business. For the next year I’m going to travel Canada and the USA, in my Class B camper van with my pack, doing just that.
These two passions collided and the business of Dogs was created, so I can share them with you.
